Teachers have the opportunity to pick up free materials, lesson plans, and schedule classroom presentations at the Ag in the Classroom Open House.
The annual open house is scheduled for Wednesday, September 4 from 3:00 –7:00 pm in the Farm Bureau Auditorium,1905 U.S. Route 150 at Henning Road, Danville. Teachers, administrators, parents and others interested in learning more about the many resources available to schools are invited to attend.
Ag Literacy Coordinators Susie Willard and Eileen Huckstadt are excited to start their second year of classroom presentations. “Our classroom topics will include wheat and Christmas trees this fall,” said Willard. “Then in January, we’ll be using the book ‘Auntie Yang’s Great Soybean Picnic’ to explore them many uses of soybeans.” Spring presentations will focus on soils, seeds and gardening.
All of our activities will be tied to the Common Core State Standards,” added Huckstadt. “Ag in the Classroom isn’t additional material for teachers, it’s incorporating ag themes in their regular lessons.”
At the Open House, educators will have a chance to review the many supplies and learning kits available to teach children about agriculture in their daily lives. Teachers may reserve the learning kits for use in their classrooms, and schedule classroom presentations.
Refreshments will be available. For more information about the Ag in the Classroom Open Houses contact Willard or Huckstadt, at (217) 442-8713 or email them at firstname.lastname@example.org.
