Former resident killed in accidental shooting in Champaign

A 20-year-old former Hoopeston resident was killed Friday, the victim of an accidental shooting.
Sydni Kay Blackwell, of Williamsport, Ind., was pronounced dead at 12:45 p.m. Friday at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
According to reports, Ms. Blackwell was shot by her boyfriend, Antonio Brown, 20, of Champaign, at 3:01 a.m. at a Super 8 Motel, 202 W. Marketview Drive, Champaign. Reports indicate both Brown and Ms. Blackwell told police the gun accidentally discharged.
Brown, who took Ms. Blackwell to the hospital, was arrested on charges of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and aggravated discharge of a firearm.
