Many people resolve to make a new, fresh start in the new year. During January, Hoopeston Public Library patrons who have lost or misplaced their library cards can also get a fresh start and a new card absolutely free. Normally, a replacement card costs $1.
Hoopeston Public Library is now part of the new Illinois Heartland Library System, which covers most of downstate Illinois. Because the heartland computer system is much larger, presenting a library card each time a patron checks out will both speed up the process and help protect their privacy and identity.
Carrying a library card also provides more efficient access to other library services, including computers and online resources, such as My Media Mall.
Library Director Linda Mitchell encouraged all patrons to take advantage of January’s free offer.
“Everyone benefits,” she said. “January is a great time to get a card if you’ve lost or misplaced yours, or even if it’s just worn out from use. We encourage our patrons to carry their card with them at all times, just like they do their driver’s license and other important documents.”
Cards are available to any resident of the library district. To obtain a replacement card, patrons will need to provide a photo ID with their current address. Children who need a new card should be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Hoopeston Public Library is located at 110 N. Fourth Street and may be reached at (217) 283-6711.
