DANVILLE — A tentative date has been set for a final public hearing on the proposed dam removals.
Mayor Scott Eisenhauer told aldermen Tuesday night the meeting is tentatively set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2. Eisenhauer said he was still waiting on confirmation on the site also — Danville Area Community College’s Bremer Center.

There will be an impartial moderator for people to gather all information and ask questions at the public meeting.
The meeting is occurring, at the request of Ward 7 Alderman Bill Black, prior to a final city council vote on the possible Danville Dam and Ellsworth Park dam removals in which the Illinois Department of Natural Resources is offering funding for removal.
In other business Tuesday, the city council’s Public Works Committee voted 3-3 with Ward 3 Alderman R.J. Davis absent, to recommend approval of additional work for Phase I of the Danville High School campus improvement project.
Ward 2 Alderman Rick Strebing, Black and Ward 6 Alderman Jon Cooper voted against approving $33,957 in additional work performed by Midwest Asphalt. This increases the total contract to $1.06 million. The contractor agreed to substitute concrete pavement for asphalt pavement at Woodbury and Clay streets to insure better grades for effective drainage, according to the resolution. It was found that a public storm sewer manhole needed replacement when connecting storm sewer and sidewalk was constructed along Jackson Street two feet wider.
Black and Ward 1 Alderman Rickey Williams Jr. again cautioned city officials about work being completed prior to aldermen approval of the spending of taxpayer dollars.
Williams also asked what would happen if the full city council didn’t approve the additional cost?
Comptroller Gayle Lewis said the city has to pay its bills, but she would ask for Corporation Counsel Dave Wesner’s opinion.
The full city council will act on the contracted work next week.
Also Tuesday, the committee recommended:
■ Purchasing 13 easements and rights-of-way for $46,000 needed for Phase 2 of the Bowman Avenue improvement project, from Winter to Crestview avenues. The project will be bid out next year.
■ Approving a one-year billboard lease agreement with Dan Pipkin Advertising for billboard No. 2 that the city owns near Main and Gilbert streets. Rent is proposed to increase from $275 a month to $300 a month.
■ Approving additional work to complete additional concrete ramps and storm sewer repairs on Vermilion Street from Main to Fairchild streets.
The additional work amounted to $31,238, increasing the total contract with Big O Services to $265,122.
■ Approving additional work by Duce Construction for sanitary sewer repairs.
