Dana Smith Schaumburg, a Milford native, was honored in May 2013 as one of Illinois Jaycees Outstanding Young People of 2013. As leading examples of many walks of life, these ten exceptional individuals represent the highest qualities of the citizenry of the great state of Illinois.
Schaumburg was nominated for her philanthropic contribution and voluntary service in the Danville, Ill., area. She moved to Danville in May 1999, and since then has worked as a reporter and editor for the Commercial-News, sales support representative at EnvirOx and in her current position as Downtown Danville, Inc. Executive Director.
She is a member of Downtown Danville Rotary and serves as Area 8 Assistant District Governor for Rotary International. She also serves as a board member for the Executive Club of Danville and the Vermilion County Workforce Investment Board and volunteers for Danville Jaycees, Bismarck-Henning Junior High Booster Club, Danville Symphony Orchestra and Faith In Action among other local groups.
She recently co-founded “Neighbors Helping Neighbors,” a community project to connect those who can help with those who need help in Vermilion County. The project coordinates collection drives to help local non-profits in need of specific items and connects volunteers with local projects.
She also launched the inaugural Taste of Downtown Danville event in September 2012 in downtown Danville. In 2012, she was named as Central Illinois Business Magazine’s Forty Under 40 award winner. She is also a graduate of Vermilion Advantage’s Leadership Tomorrow program in 2005.
Schaumburg lives in Danville with her three children—Colin, Sydney and Devin. She is the daughter of Ben and Mary Smith of Milford and the granddaughter of Carl and Bernadine Smith of Milford.
