Here’s your WHPO Sports Update….


Soccer….World Cup

the USA’s World Cup run ended in heartbreaking fashion as they lost 2-1 to Belgium in extra time.  Though scoreless through the first 90 minutes, Belgium dominated with 27 shots on goal to the USA’s nine and 19 to four in corners.  US keeper Tim Howard had 16 saves - the most in a World Cup game since 1966

Argentina will take on Belgium in the quarterfinals after they beat Switzerland 1-0 in extra time as well.

Games pick back up on the 4th of July with Germany taking on France and Brazil facing Columbia.


MLB….

the Cubs beat Boston again at Fenway, this time 2-1

the Angels completed a double header sweep of the White Sox, beating Chicago 8-4 ad 7-5 at US Cellular….

Cardinals were shut out by the Giants 5-0

NBA….

Free Agency began yesterday


Local….

the Danville Dans lost to Hannibal 7-6
