Here’s Your WHPO Sports Update…...
Gonzaga remains the #1 team in the country in this week’s AP College Basketball poll. Duke moves to #2, followed by Indiana, Louisville and Georgetown.
Gonzaga beat St. Mary’s to win the West Coast Conference tournament. The Bulldogs went undefeated in conference play this year.
and two more teams earned automatic bids to the NCAA tournament: Davidson won the Southeast Conference tournament, and Western Kentucky won the Sun Belt Conference tournament.
Philadelphia beat Brooklyn 106 – 97
The Spurs beat the Thunder 105 – 93
Utah beat Detroit
Phoenix lost to Denver
Golden State routed New York by 29.
The Minnesota Vikings have agreed to trade wide receiver Percy Harvin to the Seattle Seahawks. The trade is expected to include the Seahawks’ 2013 first-round draft choice being sent to the Vikings
The Baltimore Ravens agreed to trade receiver Anquan Boldin to the San Francisco 49ers, the team they beat last month in the Super Bowl. The Ravens will receive a sixth-round draft choice in return.
Jeff Samardzija gave up four runs over 4 2/3 innings against Arizona in a 7-5 win over the Diamondbacks. Samardzija also had a solo homer to help his cause.
White Sox beat the Rockies 3 – 1
Cardinals lost to the Yankees 4 – 0
….opening day is just 21 days away….
Bismarck-Henning senior Austin Toler and Salt Fork junior Max Stutsman were the only local players to make the IBCA (Illinois Basketball Coaches Association) Class 1A/2A All-State team.
Both Toler and Stutsman were chosen for the special mention team, while Milford’s Alex Portwood was a honorable mention selection.
