NCAA…

Minnesota rebounded from their loss at Illinois earlier in the week by beating #20 Wisconsin
58 – 53 in OT.

Ohio State beat Northwestern 69 – 59

Iowa beat Penn State 48 - 47

#5 Gonzaga beat Saint Mary’s 77 - 60

#9 Arizona lost to Colorado 71 - 58

Louisville beat St. Johns 72 - 58

NBA…

LeBron James had 39 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists, and the Miami Heat beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 110-100 in a Thursday night game before the All-Star break.

one other game last night:

LA Clippers cruised past the Lakers 125 – 101 behind Chris Paul’s 24 points and 13 assists.

 

High School Wrestling…

1st round of the IHSA Class A state wrestling tournament:

Both Jared Noel and Morgan Supergan of Bismarck-Henning advanced to the 2nd round – Noel won his 170lb preliminary round match, beating Benton’s Zach Mobley 11 – 2.  Supergan won a hard-fought match 3 – 0 over Adam Freimund of Harvard.  #1 Class 1A heavyweight Josh Wallick of GCMS also won his 1st round match.  Oakwood’s Antonio Alverez and Danville’s Javante Crider both lost yesterday.  The state tournament continues today at the Assembly Hall starting at 8:30 a.m. with quarterfinal round matches, followed by first-round wrestlebacks at approximately 1 p.m. Semifinal matches in all three classes will begin at 7 p.m.

 


HS Basketball….

Tune into 101 Country tonight as we bring you boys basketball action as Hoopeston hosts Milford for “Pack the Place” night – the first 300 Cornjerker fans through the door will receive a free t-shirt.  There will also be scrimmages played at halftime of the games by boys and girls who are part of the Hoopeston Area Youth Basketball Academy.

youth soccer news:

HAYS will hold a sign up for a spring soccer academy on Saturday, February 23rd from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at First Church of God, 1004 E. Orange St. in Hoopeston.  The academy is not a league but is a program designed to teach skills, team play, fundamentals and sportsmanship.  There will be light scrimmaging.  Newcomers to soccer are welcome!
The academy is $20 and includes a t-shirt.  It will run every Saturday morning, various times in the morning by age group on April 6th through May 4th.  It is for ages 4 through children in 8th grade, boys and girls.  Surrounding communities welcome.  If you have questions, please contact Kathy Harding at 217-497-6686.

Hoopeston Area Youth Baseball (that’s T-Ball, Instructional League, Minor, Major & Pony Leagues) and Hoopeston Girls Softball sign-ups will start at the WHPO Business Expo – the weekend of March 9 – 10.  Other sign-up dates will be announced….check out both leagues on Facebook.
