Hoopeston man held on drug charges

According to the News-Gazette,  A Hoopeston man is being held at the Champaign County Jail on $10,000 bond following his arrest Tuesday on drug charges.

Kareem J. Marshall, 34, who listed an address in the 500 block West Elm Street, was charged Wednesday with felony unlawful possession with the intent to deliver cannabis.

Marshall is due back in court on Feb. 3.

According to a police report, Marshall went to the front desk of the Residence Inn, 502 W. Marketview Drive, C, on Tuesday and asked the clerk on duty for a key to a room that was registered to his girlfriend. The clerk reported that Marshall smelled like marijuana and was carrying a large, long duffel bag. The clerk refused to give Marshall the key since he was not a registered guest.

3 charged in man’s short-lived escape from Vermilion County Jail

According to the News-Gazette, A 20-year-old Danville man was back behind bars Wednesday, one day after escaping from the Vermilion County Jail by posing as another inmate.

Larry Woodard and his friend, Tyler Jones, 19, also of Danville, were both locked in a temporary holding cell at the county jail — with three other inmates — following their arraignments around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Jones, who had been arrested Monday on a traffic warrant, was scheduled to be released from jail following his arraignment.

Woodard was arrested the same day on a warrant for violating terms of his drug court probation, stemming from a burglary conviction.

Jacobs: Student success a priority at DACC

According to the Commercial News, As Danville Area Community College (DACC) President Alice Jacobs looks ahead to the new year, she said student success is, and will remain, a top priority for the college.
“Student success and degree completion is our major focus and continues to be our focus,” she said.
This past year, DACC was named one of the top 25 Illinois community colleges for degree completion, tying for eighth place.
