Busy first day for county election filings

According to the Commercial News, When the Vermilion County Clerk’s Office opened Monday morning, there were 16 people waiting to be among the first to file to be a candidate in the 2016 county elections.
“I got here at 7:30 a.m. There was a bunch ..,” said Lindsay Light, supervisor of elections at the clerk’s office, of the number of people in line to file early.
It was a busy morning for the first day of filing, and there will be a lottery for the placement of names on the ballot for five offices which saw people file at the same time.
Some officeholders already had declared they were not seeking re-election, including Vermilion County State’s Attorney Randy Brinegar and Coroner Peggy Johnson.
Vermilion County Auditor Linda Sue Lucas-Anstey is seeking re-election to her eighth term as auditor next year. The Democrat Lucas-Anstey will be challenged by Republican Bill Wright. Wright, a Republican Vermilion County Board member representing District 5, announced in July he would be running for auditor. Wright is vice-chairman on the county board. He was first elected to the county board in 2012.
Anstey was first appointed county auditor in 1989.
