Hoopeston Area board discusses sales tax idea

According to the Commercial News,  Hoopeston Area is among the Vermilion County school districts discussing a 1 percent sales tax for school improvements to be placed on the November ballot. Fifty percent of the schools must approve the County School Facilities Sales Tax to place it on the ballot.
Superintendent Hank Hornbeck presented the option being discussed by superintendents in Vermilion County to the Hoopeston school board this week and what it would mean to the Hoopeston District if approved by voters in the November elections.
The 1 percent sales tax would project $400,000 a year on an annual basis for the Hoopeston Area district. This would not only be paid by Vermilion county residents but by anyone that shopped in, passed through, worked in or sought entertainment in Vermilion County from anywhere.
