Brother, Uncle, Son saves lives of 6 family members

DANVILLE—Pure adrenaline and love of family sent one man into action. An early morning fire nearly took the lives of six people, including a 14-month old baby. It happened Sunday, in the 200-block of Roselawn. Quick thinking from a relative saved the day. WCIA-3’s Anthony Antoine finds out how the family is faring.

It’s been a few days since the fire and the family is starting to move forward. But, the outcome could have been very different. Everyone was asleep, and if it wasn’t for the quick thinking of a family member, they might not be here to talk about it.

Arrest made in Vermilion County Bank Robberies

URBANA — The man accused of stealing more than $20,000 after knocking off two Vermilion County banks earlier this year pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court.
Ronald E. Corbin, 49, entered the plea before U.S. Magistrate Judge David Bernthal as part of a plea agreement with the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The plea is to four counts of aggravated bank robbery and two counts of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.

Disasater Recovery Center Opens in Rantoul

Disaster Recovery Center Opens in Rantoul

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – A Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will be opening at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10 in Rantoul to serve homeowners, renters and business owners who were affected by the Nov. 17 Illinois tornadoes.

DRC services include help with applying for disaster assistance and finding out about other disaster programs available from the U.S. Small Business Administration, state and local agencies and voluntary organizations. Residents must apply with FEMA even if they already provided damage information to local officials, other agencies or organizations.

KAMEG Press Release

On Monday, December 9, 2013 at approximately 7:49 p.m., KAMEG agents executed a search warrant at 349 South Curtis Avenue, Kankakee, IL. During the investigation, agents seized approximately 449.7 grams of cannabis, drug paraphernalia, currency, drug packaging material and a digital scale.  The resident, Garrett R. Griswold, age 22,  was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver (30-500 grams) and with possession of drug paraphernalia.  Griswold was transported to and detained at the Jerome Combs Detention Center.

Tentative Date for Public Hearing on Dam Removals

DANVILLE — A tentative date has been set for a final public hearing on the proposed dam removals.
Mayor Scott Eisenhauer told aldermen Tuesday night the meeting is tentatively set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2. Eisenhauer said he was still waiting on confirmation on the site also — Danville Area Community College’s Bremer Center.

Attorney says Court Battle is Inevitable

DANVILLE — A court battle regarding noise complaints against turbines in the California Ridge Wind Farm would seem inevitable, according to an attorney for Invenergy.
Vermilion County board members listened at Tuesday’s meeting as Michael Blazer, an environmental attorney for the wind turbine company, revealed some preliminary details of a study into the complaints, which began in February.
