DACC offers CNA Class in Hoopeston

DACC Offering CNA Classes at Hoopeston
The DACC Hoopeston Higher Education Center will offer a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) evening course in the Fall 2013 semester.  An orientation session will be held on August 8th at 12:00 noon at Danville Area Community College in Prairie Hall, room 106.  To qualify candidates must be a resident of DACC College District 507.  Admission into the class requires testing, a live scan fingerprint background check, and an application. If interested, please call 217-443-8784, Susie Landers, for testing.  There are a limited number of slots for this highly competitive program and preference will be given for those living in the northern part of the the district.

J & R Scrap Tire Fire Cleanup Slow, but Steady

One semi-trailer load at a time, the massive amount of rubber, iron, brick and other burned debris is disappearing from the site, as four excavators continually sort and clear away material.  Clean up is expected to take up to 16 weeks according to Joyce Munie who is with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency remediation section of the Bureau of Land.  Munie checks the site weekly and Mayor, Bill Cruisenberry meets her at the site for an update.

11th Annual Sugar Creek Symphony & Song Festival in Watseka this Weekend

The Sugar Creek Symphony and Song Festival will take place in Watseka this weekend featuring an All-American theme.  The festival will be the American Opera, “Cold Sassy Tree”, composed by Carlisle Floyd, who lives in Florida and this will be the Midwest premiere of the piece.  It is based on the 1984 novel of the same title by Olive Ann Burns and will be Floyd’s 10th opera and his first comic.
