County board chairman to exit

According to the Commercial News,After two years as chairman of the Vermilion County Board, longtime member Gary Weinard is stepping down.
Weinard, who spoke about his pride during the meeting, confirmed following Wednesday night’s meeting that he will not return to the county board following the reorganizational meeting on Dec. 1.

The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 10:

WHAT: Traffic Crash (Personal injury) with lane blockage

WHERE: I-74 W/B at M. P. 199 (Vermilion)

WHEN: Thursday, 11/13/14, at approximately 6:11 pm

VEHICLES: Black 1999 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck

DRIVERS: 1) Male, 64, Fithian

PASSENGERS: Male, 11, Fithian

PRELIMINARY: The Chevrolet Silverado was westbound on I-74 at milepost 199.  The driver lost control of the vehicle on a patch of ice on the roadway. Chevrolet Silverado traveled off the roadway and into the median.  The front fender of the vehicle struck the median wires and came to rest partially in the left lane. Recent snow flurries created icy conditions on the roadway.

TRANSPORTS: The driver and passenger were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

SEATBELTS: Seatbelts were worn

Iroquois County former employees used work computers for personal use

According to the Paxton Record, Three former top-ranking officials in the Ford-Iroquois Public Health Department used their work computers for “personal use and personal gain” at least 70 percent of the time they were on them, a computer forensic expert revealed Wednesday, adding to the list of questionable conduct by ex-employees of the recently dissolved agency.

“These computers were rarely used, less than 30 percent of the time, for county business. They were used for personal business,” said Andrew R. Garrett of Decatur-based Garrett Discovery Inc.

Community Health Fair

Hoopeston Multi Agency will host a Community Health Fair from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.  The event will feature Carle’s Mills Breast Cancer Institute and Stroke and Spine Center, Myers Pharmacy for flu vaccines, Crosspoint Human Services, Aunt Martha, Vermilion County Rape Crisis Center, Hoopeston Breast Cancer Group, along with support groups for grief and loss, addictions and military families, University of Illinois Extension, DACC, and East Central Illinois Food Bank.

Gifford Village Board should have new home by middle of next year

Almost one year after a tornado ripped through Gifford, the village board has made formal plans for a new home.  If all goes to plan, Gifford should have a new village hall and maintenance building by the middle of next year.  The board approved an agreement to purchase the Spreader building off U.S. 136 for $175,000, with a plan to renovate the building to house administration.
