The Sugar Creek Symphony and Song Festival will take place in Watseka this weekend featuring an All-American theme. The festival will be the American Opera, “Cold Sassy Tree”, composed by Carlisle Floyd, who lives in Florida and this will be the Midwest premiere of the piece. It is based on the 1984 novel of the same title by Olive Ann Burns and will be Floyd’s 10th opera and his first comic.
According to Helen Todd, artistic director and co-founder of Sugar Creek, she decided to go with an American Opera to help unify the opera and the festival goers. Tickets for this weekend can be purchased by calling 815-432-3830.
