DANVILLE — Cellular One wants to improve the way people shop for cell phones as it opened its new store at 3679 N. Vermilion St., in the same shopping plaza as Kohl’s and T.J. Maxx.
Cellular One opened its new store on Tuesday. A grand opening will be scheduled for a later date. The store was previously located at the Village Mall.
From its inception, the store was designed to create an inviting and interactive shopping experience, according to a Cellular One press release.
“When you walk in and see a couch and Xbox playing on a big screen TV, you know this isn’t a traditional cell phone store,” said Taylor Rich, Cellular One store coordinator, in the press release.
“Americans are very mobile nowadays. Cell phones and service plans change quickly, so we created a store where you feel comfortable asking questions and take time making decisions,” Rich said.
The store features a “live” display for phones and tablets. Customers are welcome to touch the phones, take photos and even plug in their personal headphones to hear the phone’s sound quality. Cellular One refers to it as a technology test drive.
Cellular One said one thing it will not change in its new store is the company’s pledge to personal service and education. Free smartphone classes are offered the third Sunday of each month. Plus the customer care call center will remain local, in Danville.
“We have a reputation for going that extra mile — something an online purchase could never do,” Rich said. “Our store experts aren’t about making a transaction. They want to find solutions for our customers. The personal approach in this new store will help us do just that.”
The Cellular One store at Towne Center will remain open, serving the southern reach of the Danville area.
Cellular One is the only privately-owned, locally-operated wireless carrier dedicated exclusively to providing quality, nationwide service in East Central Illinois. The company has been in operation since 1991 and serves residents in Vermilion, Coles, Clark, Clay, Crawford, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Jasper, Lawrence and Richland counties
