According to Just the Facts, Specialist James “Kyle” Newton competed against other nominees in a physical fitness test, which he scored a 100% and appearance before a board of Senior NCOs to answer questions based on Army history and other matters to become the Soldier of the Month for his platoon.
Newton graduated from HAHS and joined the Army in 2011. He is stationed at Ft. Myers in Washington, D.C. on a firing party that performs 21 gun salutes at funerals in Arlington Cemetery and other ceremonial events. He is the son of Misti Morfrey and Jim Newton of Hoopeston and is married to Aburey (Trosper) Newton, Rossville. He also recently returned from Gettysburg, where he participated in a mission celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.
