Update:  Police arrest 3 in Danville armed robbery

According to the News-Gazzette in DANVILLE — Police have arrested three people in connection with an armed robbery of a downtown Danville jewelry store Tuesday morning and arrested another individual in an unrelated purse-snatching that happened about the same time.

The first incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. at Rothery Jewelers in downtown Danville when police received a call that it had been robbed.  Officers arrived on the scene and were told that as many as three people had entered the store, held several employees at gunpoint and smashed jewelry cases removing an unknown amount of jewelry.  The robbers were last seen running from the business towards the northwest.
Danville Police and Vermilion County Sheriff’s deputies immediately began combing the downtown area, utilizing the K-9 team and at 10:15 a.m. they stopped a 23 year-old man in the area of Walnut and Williams streets, about a block from the robbery and arrested him in connection with the crime.  Then at 10:45 a.m. officers arrested two more men - a 29 year-old and 33 year-old in connection with the robbery in the 300 block of Franklin Street.
According to Safety Director, Larry Thomason, the names of the three arrested are not being released at this time as the investigation continues.  He said some of the jewelry stolen from the store has been recovered and no one at the business was injured.
Thomason also said Tuesday was a challenging day for local law enforcement, but the partnerships with the sheriff’s department helped Danville Police and county deputies work together to resolve the incident.
