Maria Paulina Barrera, 55, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 10:44 P.M. Friday July 11, 2014 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. She was born June 22, 1959, in Puebla, Mexico, the daughter of Luis and Domitila (Omana) Rios. She married Jose Barrera on December 22, 1982 in Puebla, Mexico. He survives in Hoopeston, IL.
She is survived by three daughters, Magali (Alejandro) Espitia Ortega, Julieta (Rene) Rodriguez Dominguez and Cita (Edwin) Grijalva Romero all of Ambia, IN; two sons, Gilberto (Carmen) Barrera Alconedo and David (Lucerito) Barrera Alconedo of Ambia, IN; 5 sisters, Beatris Alconedo Omana, Pajita Alconedo Omana, Lena Alconedo Omana, Veta Alconedo Omana and Christina Alconedo Omana; 6 brothers, Emiliano Alconedo Omana, Senaido Alconedo Omana, Primitibo Alconedo Omana, Doroteo Alconedo Omana, Tereso Alconedo Omana and Federico Alconedo Omana; 15 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sons, one half-brother and one half-sister.
Maria was a homemaker. She enjoyed shopping, cooking, walking, taking her grandchildren to the park and spending time with her family.

Daniel “Dan” Eugene Deck Sr., 75, of Potomac

Daniel “Dan” Eugene Deck Sr., 75, of Potomac, passed away at 8:35 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2014, at his home.
Dan was born on November 4, 1938, in Danville, the son of Howard and Frances Mabel (Smith) Deck.  He married Cathy Phillips on November 6, 1976, in Rossville.  She survives.
He is also survived by two sons- JR (Chris) Deck and Chad (Liz) Deck both of Potomac; daughter- Amanda Deck of Potomac; four grandchildren- Brynden Deck, Cole Deck, Jonathan Deck and Aidyn Deck; sister- Lois (Bob) Chesnut of Danville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers- Richard and James Deck and two sisters- Barbara Romero and Peggy Goin.
Dan worked for several years in construction.  He enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears and Fighting Illini.  He also enjoyed fishing, watching the O’Reilly Factor and spending time with his family and grandkids. 
Graveside services for Mr. Deck will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2014, at Gundy Cemetery in Bismarck, with Pastor Randy Holden officiating.  Memorials may be made in Dan’s name to the American Cancer Society.  The family has entrusted the Wolfe-Blurton Funeral Home in Potomac to assist them in honoring Dan’s life.  Memories or photos may be shared with the family on his memorial page at:  www.blurtonfuneralhomes.com.

Douglas Dean Perzee, 44, of Donovan

Douglas Dean Perzee, 44, of Donovan, passed away Friday, July 4, 2014.

He was born September 9, 1969, in Watseka, the son of Leroy Everett and Norma (Sapp) Perzee.

On October 9, 1995, he married Elizabeth Anderson, in Danforth, IL at the Reformed Church.

Mr. Perzee was a plumber and pipefitter, and most recently a welder. He was a member of Chicago Pipefitters Local 597, a volunteer firefighter for the Concord Fire Department, and coached and umpired for Watseka Little League Baseball. He was a huge White Sox fan. He enjoyed golfing and fishing with family and friends.

Surviving Mr. Perzee is his wife, Elizabeth Perzee of Donovan, IL; two sons, Landon Perzee and Brett Perzee of Donovan, IL; three brothers and sister-in-laws, Randy and Kelly Perzee of Lafayette, IN, George and Paula Perzee of Watseka, IL, and Charles “Chuck” and Darlene Perzee of Donovan, IL; one step-brother, David Sisco of Fairbury, IL; two step-sisters and brother-in-law, Cindy Rathbun of Tennessee, and Anne and Scott Haskell of Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Leroy Everett; grandparents, Ralph and Berneice Perzee.

Visitation for Mr. Perzee will be held from 4-8pm on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka.

Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2014, at St. Edmund’s Catholic Church in Watseka, at 11:00 am with Father Michael Powell officiating. There will be a one hour visitation prior to mass at the Baier Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in Gaffield Cemetery in Iroquois, IL.

Olga L. Reynolds, 94, of Sheldon passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the Watseka Rehab & Health Care Center.

Olga was born November 15, 1919 in Stockland, the daughter of William Herbert and Gertrude M. Karn Smith and they preceded her in death in addition to one son-in-law, Jack Julien; one great-grandson, Austin Blanchette; one brother, Claire “Bud” Smith; and one sister, Ruth Dawson. She married Mearle J. Reynolds on June 14, 1941 at the Raub Methodist Church in Raub, IN and he preceded her in death on December 20, 1990.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Julien of Morton and Betty (Larry) Blanchette of Bourbonnais; one son, Larry (Margaret) Reynolds of Greenwood, IN; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Duaine Smith of Denver, CO; one sister-in-law, Jane Smith; one brother-in-law, Frank Dawson; and several nieces and nephews.

Olga was a member of the Sheldon United Methodist Church and Senior Citizens. She graduated from Stockland Grade School and Raub High School. After getting married, she lived in the rural Sheldon area and helped out on the farm until their retirement and then moved into Sheldon. She enjoyed square dancing, sewing, crocheting, gardening, playing Bingo and keeping her house in order.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 14, 2014 at the Sheldon Cemetery. Rev. Robert Sabo will officiate.

Nora Blanche Aaron, 102, of Hoopeston passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Heritage Health in Hoopeston.

Nora was born September 4, 1911 in Wayne City, the daughter of George and Etta Sexton Richardson and they preceded her in death in addition to three daughters, Shirley O’Neal, Norma Pierce and Nancy Newton; one son, Allen Gene Foster; one brother, Paris Richardson; and three sisters, Flossie Kittle, Irma Richardson and Thelma Epperson. She married Allen Foster on December 20, 1930 in Rantoul and he preceded her in death on January 30, 1970. She married Wilbert Aaron in October 1947 and he preceded her in death on June 7, 1989.

She is survived by one son, Douglas (Charlene) Aaron of Framingham, MA; one sister, Lesbia Heffron; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Aaron was a member of the Baptist Church of Wayne City, IL. She enjoyed making doll clothes and quilting.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Knapp Funeral Home in Rankin. Rev. Janet Longtin will officiate. Burial will be in the Rankin Union Cemetery.

Helene M. O’Brien, 81, of Sheldon passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at her residence in Sheldon.

Helene was born April 17, 1933 in Donovan, the daughter of LeRoy and Nelda Tebo Francoeur and they preceded her in death. She married Robert Griswold on September 10, 1955 in Beaverville and he preceded her in death on June 25, 1981. She later married Russell O’Brien on August 28, 1982 in Kentland, IN and he preceded her in death on January 25, 2002.

She is survived by one son, Stephen Griswold at home; two step-children, Tamara and Tim O’Brien; one aunt, LeNore Tebo of Donovan; a special neighbor, Deb Daniels of Sheldon; and numerous cousins.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was also preceded in death by all of her other aunts and uncles.

Mrs. O’Brien was a member of St. Edmund Catholic Church in Watseka. Helene worked at Uarco for many years.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the 6:00 p.m. funeral mass on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Knapp Funeral Home in Sheldon. Fr. Michael Powell will officiate. Private burial will take place at Sheldon Cemetery.

Evelyn was born May 19, 1924 in Cissna Park, the daughter of Benjamin and Lillian Feller Kaufmann. She married Harvey H. Hartman on February 22, 1946 in Watseka and he preceded her in death on November 11, 2005.

She is survived by three daughters, Sheryl (Ron) Gocken of Watseka, Sharon (Harold) Wiedeman of Watseka, and Sheila Hartman of Watseka; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Hartman of Inverness; four grandchildren, Lisa (Todd) Oster, David Wiedeman, Hailey and Michael Hartman; four great grandchildren; one brother, Harry (Engel) Kaufmann of Watseka; five sisters, Erm Tebo of Cissna Park, Vi (Gene) Redman of Watseka, Arlene Gutwein of Surprise, AZ, Wilma (Rolland) Light of Sheldon, Dorothy (Joel) Koonce of Watseka; one sister-in-law, Irene Lowe of Watseka.

In addition to her husband, Harvey, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Leslie and Marvin Kaufmann; and one son, Rick Hartman.

Mrs. Hartman was a member of First United Methodist Church in Watseka. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka. Pastor Jim Harkins will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Watseka.

Myra E. Virkus, 100, of Pontiac, IL and formerly of Onarga, IL passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Evenglow Lodge in Pontiac.

Myra was born March 5, 1914 in Onarga, the daughter of William S. Waide and Mary “Minnie” V. Ward Waide. She married Willis A. Virkus on February 26, 1938 in Onarga and he preceded her in death on January 26, 1986.

She is survived by two daughters, Ruth V. Bleich of Rio Rancho, NM and Mary (Toby) Seibert of Saunemin, IL; one son, WM. L. (Bill) Virkus of Humansville, MO; five granddaughters; and eleven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Willis, she was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers; and four sisters.

Mrs. Virkus was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Onarga as well as Rebekah’s Lodge in Onarga. She graduated from Onarga High School in 1933. Myra enjoyed Pinochle, Bingo, and watching sports.

Cremation rites will be accorded and services will be held at a later date.

Helen ” Betty” Brown, 92, of Patterson, CA formerly of Rossville/Hoopeston

Helen ” Betty” Brown, born May 24, 1922, in Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho, passed away on June 18, 2014 in Turlock, California she had just celebrated her 92nd birthday with her family. She lived in the Rossville/Hoopeston, Illinois area for 63 years and then moved to Patterson, California in 2005, after her husband, Oliver Daniel Brown passed away in October of 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Olive Klenck and her sister, Jeanne Klenck Tomasieski.

She was an amazing woman!! Her life was full of adventuresome and interesting events—-from how she met and married her husband ”Brownie” to hearing distress calls from Amelia Earhart on her ham radio when she was just 15 years old. Her hand written “notebook” is now in the Smithsonian Institute and has helped the “TIGHAR” Group in their continuing search for Amelia’s plane. She had appeared in documentaries for both The Discovery Channel and The National Geographic Channel.

She was also an artist and an avid Genealogy buff and had researched the family history back to the 1300’s AD.

Her great love for her family gave her much happiness and enjoyment. She is survived by her daughter, Dona Brown Harper, her son, Daniel (Judy) Brown and 7 grandchildren-Timothy (Tobie) Moyles, Michael (Monica) Moyles, Sheila Moyles (Greg) Garfield, Shannon Moyles, Daniel Oliver (Kelly) Moyles, Toby (Paige) Brown and Tanja Brown Weinard, 14 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.

Gregory Scott Darrough, 56, Sheldon, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2014
He was born August 16, 1957 in Watseka, son of Charles W. and Norma (Hiltz) Darrough.

He worked as a graphic artist in Chicago for American Signwerks, and later owned and operated his own business, On Target Signs. He was a talented artist and musician, and enjoyed working and playing music at the Gallery Cabaret in the Bucktown Neighborhood of Chicago.

Survivors include his parents in Sheldon, a son; Joseph Raymond, Watseka, sister; DeAnna (Jack) Kiifner, Sheldon, a brother; Brett (Emily) Darrough, Ft. Wayne, IN, and a nephew; Max Darrough, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Memorial visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until the 7:00 p.m. memorial service on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Sheldon. Rev. Gary Milton will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in the Sheldon Cemetery.

Mr. Guill was a factory worker for S&S Plastics in Watseka, IL. He enjoyed Westerns, BBQ cookouts, horseshoes, NASCAR, and animals.

Surviving Mr. Guill is his mother, Ruth Guill of Watseka, IL; two brothers and sister-in-law, Daniel and Mary Guill of Marietta, GA and Mark Guill of Watseka, IL; two nephews and two nieces, Benjamin Biskie of Streator, IL, Julie Guill of Fairfax, Virgina, Natalie Hirons of Marietta, GA, and Christopher Guill of Merrillville, IN; three great-nephews and one great-niece, William and Michael Guill of Marietta, GA, Caleb Guill of Gary, IN, and Devon Guill of Merrillville, IN; and many cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father, William “Bill” Guill; and grandparents.

Memorial service for Mr. Guill will be held from 1-3pm on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka. The family will be meeting with friends.

Robert (Bob) Tibbetts, 88, of Watseka passed away on Friday, June 27, 2014 at Iroquois Resident Home in Watseka.

Bob was born September 8, 1925 in Danville, IL, the son of George P. and Anna E. Keck Tibbetts. He married Elizabeth “Betty” Wielert on May 3, 1947 in Sheldon and she preceded him in death on March 19, 2010.

He is survived by one daughter, Marcia (Barry) Craft of Watseka; two sons, Tom (Marilyn) Tibbetts of Watseka and Ron (Vandy) Tibbetts of Mount Pleasant, SC; five grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Edward Tibbetts; one sister, LaVon Thompson; and one daughter, Terri George.

Mr. Tibbetts was a member of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Lodge #2059 in Kankakee as well as Watseka American Legion Post #23 and Iroquois County VFW Post #7450. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. Bob worked at A.O. Smith as a Press Operator for 34 years.

Visitation will be from be from 11:00 a.m. until the 1:00 p.m. funeral service on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka. Rev. Wayne Meyer will officiate. Burial will be at Prairie Dell Cemetery in Iroquois. Military rites will be provided by the Watseka American Legion Post #23 and Iroquois County VFW Post #7450.

Marian E. Maulding, 90, of Paxton passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Illinois Knights Templar Home in Paxton.

Marian was born February 3, 1924 in Loda, the daughter of Fred and Olivia Saldeen Pearson and they preceded her in death in addition to one brother, Arthur Pearson; one sister, Frances Dillon; and one grandson. She married Roger E. Maulding on October 22, 1943 in Rural Paxton and he preceded her in death on December 17, 2005.

She is survived by four daughters, Diana (Terry) Hinshaw of Rantoul, Cheryl (Tom) Henson of Paxton, Gail (Wayne) Ritzma of Loda and Janet (Darrell) Abrahamson of Loda; three sons, Mark (Carolyn) Maulding of Sibley, Alan (Kathy) Maulding of Ludlow and Kent (Terri) Maulding of Paxton; twenty-three grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; nine adopted grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Maulding was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Paxton and the MOFFETT Club.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the 2:30 p.m. funeral service on Monday, June 30, 2014 at the Knapp-Miller Funeral Home in Paxton. Rev. Craig Pinley and Pastor Brian Atwell will officiate. Burial will be in the Glen Cemetery in Paxton.

She is survived by one daughter, Nancy (Art) Janssen of Watseka; two grandchildren, Tim (Melinda) Ketchum of Watseka and Becky (Sean) McCalla of Milford; and four great-grandchildren, Haylee & Brayden Ketchum and Hannah & Kendall McCalla.

Mrs. Irvin was a member of the Rankin United Methodist Church, Rankin Jr. Womens Club, Rossville Historical Society and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, the Cubs, the Bulls, NASCAR, and Illinois Football and Basketball.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Knapp Funeral Home in Rankin with an hour prior visitation. Rev. Janet Longtin will officiate. Burial will be in the Rankin Union Cemetery. Visitation will also be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka.

Deloris Mae Robertson, 92, of East Lynn, passed away at 1:25 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2014, at Hoopeston Regional Health Center.
Deloris was born on September 6, 1921, in Bismarck, the daughter of Mack and Carrie (Young) Simpkins. She married Harold W. Robertson on December 7, 1958, at the East Lynn Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on February 4, 1989.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brother- Floyd, Chester, Harry and Homer Simpkins, four sisters- Maxine Mayfield, Minnie Lanman, Myrtle Simpkins and Dorothy Thomas, and her special cat- Mitzi.
Deloris attended grade school and high school in Henning. She worked at TRW, area canning companies and as a farmer’s wife. Deloris was a past member of East Lynn Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Farm Bureau and Women’s Bowling League in Hoopeston. She enjoyed cake decorating, working in her yard, gardening, restoring antiques, making fudge and crocheting.
A Celebration of Deloris’ Life will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at the Brown-Alkire Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Andy Maxwell officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in East Lynn Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Deloris’ name to the Hoopeston Animal Shelter. Frances Mae Pettice, 94, of Potomac, passed away at 9:10 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2014, at Heritage Health in Hoopeston.
Frances was born on July 30, 1919, in Posey, Indiana, the daughter of Emery and Cora Rumble.  She married James Daniel Pettice on November 6, 1939.  He preceded her in death on August 22, 1985.
She is survived by one son- Steve (Marilyn) Pettice of Potomac; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one sister- Elizabeth Whitman of Rossville; two half-sisters- Lois Dickerson of Alvin and Mae Herron of Potomac; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons- Mike and Dave Pettice, grandson-Michael Allan Pettice and he brothers and sisters.
Frances attended the Rossville Church of Christ.  She enjoyed crocheting, baking, doing yard work and spending time with her family.
A Celebration of Frances’ Life will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014, at the Wolfe-Blurton Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Kevin Purdy officiating.  Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.  Burial will follow the service in Gundy Cemetery in Bismarck.  Memorials may be made to the family.  The family has entrusted the Wolfe-Blurton Funeral Chapel to assist them in honoring Mrs. Pettice’s life.  Memories or photos may be shared with the family on her memorial page at:  www.blurtonfuneralhomes.com.
