Bowl Games on New Years’ Eve

:
#8 LSU lost to #14 Clemson 25 – 24 in the Chick-fil-A Bowl
Tulsa 31 – Iowa State 17 in the Liberty Bowl
Georgia Tech 21 – USC 7 in the Sun Bowl

New Years’ Day bowl games:

Oklahoma State pounded Purdue 58 – 14 in the Heart of Dallas Bowl
#20 Northwestern won the Gator Bowl, beating Mississippi State 34 – 20
Georgia 45 – Nebraska 31 in the Capital One Bowl
South Carolina 33 – Michigan 28 in a wild Outback Bowl
Stanford beat Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl 20 -14
Florida State 31 – Northern Illinois 10 in the Orange Bowl

NFL…

Seven NFL Coaches were fired this week – including the Chicago Bears’ Lovie Smith.  Other teams that are now searching for a new head coach include: the Philadelphia Eagles, San Diego Chargers, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, KC Chiefs, and the Buffalo Bills.

Manchester United, West Ham United, Tottenham, Manchester City & Fulham, with the Arsenal/Southhampton and Aston Villa/Swansea matches ending in ties

NBA…

Dallas beat Washington 103 – 94
Atlanta over New Orleans 95 - 86
Detroit 103 – Sacramento 97

and after winning 17 games straight, the LA Clippers lost to the Denver Nuggets 92 - 78

NCAA basketball…

For the third straight week, Duke is No. 1 in The Associated Press’ Top 25, and for the first time in 16 years, Minnesota is in the top 10.
The undefeated Blue Devils received all but two first-place votes from the 65-member media panel on Monday.  13-0 Michigan received those two first-place ballots for the second straight week and is #2.
The next four teams—Arizona, Louisville, Indiana and Kansas—held their places from last week. Syracuse, Ohio State, Minnesota and Gonzaga rounded out the top 10.
Minnesota is in the top 10 for the first time since it was third in the final poll of 1996-97.
