MLB…

Voters failed to elect any candidates to the Baseball Hall of Fame for only the second time in four decades.  Those not receiving the required minimum of 75% of the vote included those with steroid and performance enhancing drug tainted careers – Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Sammy Sosa.  Other players of note who failed to garner enough votes for induction: Craig Biggio, Jeff Bagwell, Mike Piazza, Tim Raines, Curt Schillilng, Mark McGuire, and Rafael Palmeiro.  1996 was the last year no one was voted into the Hall.

NFL….

The Philadelphia Eagles have interviewed Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly for their coaching vacancy.  Kelly coached the Fighting Irish to a 12-0 regular season and an appearance in the BCS National Championship. Notre Dame was routed by Alabama, 42-14, on Monday night.
Philadelphia has been seeking a replacement for longtime coach Andy Reid, who was fired one day after the Eagles completed a disappointing 4-12 season.

NBA…

Carmelo Anthony was suspended one game by the NBA on Wednesday for confronting Kevin Garnett after the New York Knicks’ loss to Boston on Monday.


Kevin Love will miss the next eight to 10 weeks after needing surgery to repair a right
hand that is broken for the second time this season, the Minnesota Timberwolves
announced on Wednesday.

College Football news…

Illinois offensive line coach Luke Butkus is leaving the school to become run-game coordinator at Florida International.
Last week, Florida International hired former Illinois head coach Ron Turner to take over its football team. Butkus was a standout for Turner at Illinois, helping the Illini to the 2001 Big Ten title and a spot in the Sugar Bowl.
