The Arizona Cardinals have filled the NFL’s final head coaching vacancy by hiring Indianapolis offensive coordinator Bruce Arians.  (‘area-ans’)
The 60-year-old longtime assistant went 9-3 as Colts interim head coach while Chuck Pagano was undergoing treatment for leukemia last season.


The NBA All-Star Game starters were announced Thursday as Kobe Bryant edged out LaBron James by about 7800 votes to lead the balloting.  This is Bryant’s 15th All-Star selection.

NCAA Men’s basketball…

Reggie Hearn scored 20 points and Northwestern built an early lead using 3-point shooting to hand No. 23 Illinois its third straight loss, 68-54 last night.

Illinois has lost five of seven after starting 12-0.  Brandon Paul had 21 points for
Illinois, which shot 38% from the field, including 15 percent from 3-point range.
