Jabari Parker, the nation’s No. 2 senior, committed to Duke during a news conference at his school Thursday.
Parker, a 6-foot-8 forward out of Simeon Career Academy in Chicago, chose the Blue Devils over BYU, Florida, Michigan State and Stanford.

The Chicago Cubs and pitcher Edwin Jackson agreed to terms on a four-year, $52 million deal. Jackson was 10-11 with a 4.03 ERA in 31 starts with the Washington Nationals in 2012.
Free-agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski has agreed to terms with the Texas Rangers on a one-year deal, pending a physical, sources confirmed. Pierzynski, who turns 36 on Dec. 30, batted .278 with 27 homers (a career high) and 77 RBIs (tied a career-high in 2004) this past season for the Chicago White Sox.
The NHL could be one step away from canceling another hockey season because of a labor fight with the players.
