5-time NASCAR Champion Jimmie Johnson won his 2nd Daytona 500 on Sunday.  Dale Earnhardt, Jr. finished 2nd, Brad Keselowski 3rd.  Pole Sitter Danica Patrick finished 8th. 


The Chicago Cubs and starter Jeff Samardzija won their home spring opener, beating the SF Giants 4- 3. 


Corey Crawford made 28 saves, and Andrew Shaw scored the only goal as the Chicago Blackhawks stretched their NHL-record, season-opening point streak to 18 games with a 1-0 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday night.

The Michigan Wolverines shook off a sluggish first half with a strong second half to win consecutive games for the first time in nearly a month, beating Illinois 71 – 58.  Brandon Paul scored all 10 of points in the first half to help the Illini lead 31-28 at halftime. Paul didn’t attempt a shot in the second half. D.J. Richardson and Tracy Abrams each scored 10 points for the Illini.

Salt Fork beat Shiloh 53 – 47.  The Storm advance to the Schlarman Sectional on Wednesday night.

Class 1A Regional Championship at Heritage:

#1 seed Cissna Park beat 3-seed host Heritage 53 – 46.  The Timberwolves will face St. Anne in the Schlarman Sectional tomorrow night.

and congratulations to the 18 Hoopeston Area Youth Wrestlers who advanced from Sunday’s Westville Regional to Sectionals this Saturday in Pontiac.  The top 3 finishers in each weigh class at Sectionals advance to State in Rockford.
