Jimmie Johnson took the checkered flag for a record eighth time at Dover International Speedway.

Cardinals beat the Cubs 4 – 0

White Sox lost to KC 4 – 1

NL Wild Card playoff games begin Tuesday….AL Wild Card Wednesday.  Best of 5 Division Series begin Thursday for the Cardinals and Friday for the AL.

College Football….

Nathan Scheelhaase threw a career high five touchdown passes as the Illini beat Miami of OH 50-14 on Saturday.

Purdue took a beating at the hands of Northern Illinois, losing to the Huskies 55 – 24

…and the AP Poll top 5 remained the same, with Alabama at #1, followed by Oregon, Clemson, Ohio State and Stanford.  Notre Dame dropped out of the Top 25 after losing to Oklahoma.

Oakwood/A-P lost to G-RF 28 – 20

Bismarck-Henning got by Salt Fork 28 – 25

Westville beat Milford/C-P 42 – 14.


Watseka won their own Invitational Saturday, defeating Peotone in straight sets. All-tournament picks included Armstrong-Potomac’s Rachel Miles and Morgan Zindars, Danville’s Mackenzie King, Hoopeston Area’s Rylee Martin, Salt Fork’s Jenny Kimbro and Watseka’s Emily Allhands, Taylor Bauer and Hayley Gray.
Andy Bott (77) was the medalist, leading Bismarck-Henning to the team title at the Salt Fork Invitational at Rivercrest in Covington on Saturday.
Skyler Barnard scored on an assist from Elijah Yates for the host Cornjerkers but it wasn’t enough at Hoopeston Area lost to Herscher 2 – 1.
