NHL…

Marian Hossa scored 1:44 into overtime and the Blackhawks beat the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 on Monday night to stretch their NHL-record opening points streak to 19 games.  Ray Emery made 17 saves in goal for the Hawks to remain unbeaten in his eight starts this season.


NBA…

At-lanta beat Detroit 114 – 103

Washington over Toronto 90 – 84

Boston beat Utah 110 – 107 in OT

Denver got by the LA Lakers 119 - 108


NFL…

Tom Brady has agreed to a three-year, $27 million contract extension with the Patriots, a deal that will keep him with New England through the 2017 season.  Brady’s relatively modest deal frees up $15 million worth of salary-cap space for the Patriots in the 2013 and 2014 seasons.


NCAA…

Indiana is No. 1 in The Associated Press’ Top 25 for the fourth straight week, while Gonzaga moved to No. 2 for the first time in school history.
Duke moved up three spots to third and is followed by Michigan and Miami, which dropped from second after falling to Wake Forest, the Hurricanes’ first Atlantic Coast Conference loss this season.
Kansas is sixth, followed by Georgetown, Florida, Michigan State and Louisville.

Hoopeston Area Youth Baseball will hold sign ups for Pony League, Major, Minor, Instructional League and T-ball at the WHPO Business Expo at the civic center on Saturday March 9th from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. and on Sunday, March 10th from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Children must be age 5 by Aug. 1st to participate in T-ball.  Fees are $40 for T-ball and $60 for all other divisions.  Family discounts apply.  For more information, please contact HAYB President Quentin Morgan at 217-530-1923 or Secretary, Kathy Harding at 217-497-6686.  Last day for Pony League sign ups are March 18th and last day for youth baseball is April 1st.  Another sign up will be held March 16th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at city hall in Hoopeston.
