Here’s Your WHPO Sports Report….

College Football…

The government shutdown will not stop college football.
Air Force’s trip to Navy and Army’s game at Boston College will be played as scheduled on Saturday. Because of the shutdown, the games were in danger of not being played. However, after approval from the secretary of defense, they’re a go.

Alex Cobb tossed 6 and 2/3 scoreless innings to guide the Tampa Bay Rays past the Cleveland Indians 4 – 0 and into the ALDS against the Boston Red Sox.


The USA takes on an International Team in the best-ball Presidents Cup competition in Ohio starting today.

High School…

cross country…
St. Joe-Odgen boys and girls beat Hoopeston Area at Christman Park in Rossville. 
Dakota Gash had a goal and three assists and Gracson Torres added two goals and an assist for Danville as the Vikings beat MacArthur 7 - 0
Donovan won the boys’ team title at the Iroquois County tournament.  Watseka was 2nd, Iroquois West finished 3rd.  Hoopeston Area competes in the VVC tournament today and Regionals next week.
