Cubs hit 5 HRs as they beat up on the Nationals 11 – 1.

White Sox had the day off.

also:  The Prospect League has announced their post-season awards, with Danville Dans starter Troy Conyers being named the Roland Hemond Prospect of the Year.  Conyers, a LHP sophomore University of San Diego, went 5-1 on the year with a 1.53 ERA. He struck out 60 across eight games this summer, allowing no runs in six of those starts. The league also honored manager Jason Watson with the Manager of the Year Award after guiding the 2013 Dans to a Prospect League record 41 regular-season wins.


NFL…

The Redskins beat the Steelers 24 – 13 without RG III.

Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman revealed on Monday that starting quarterback Jay Cutler and his primary backup, Josh McCown, will not see the field in the team’s preseason finale Aug. 29 versus the Cleveland Browns. 
Instead, newcomers Jordan Palmer and Trent Edwards will lead the Bears offense against the Browns as both try to earn a spot on the team’s 53-man roster.

NASCAR…

Mark Martin will sub for the ailing Tony Stewart for the rest of this Sprint Cup season, beginning Saturday night at Bristol.
