HS Boys Basketball…

Armstrong-Potomac beat Oakwood 70 – 59 in Vermilion Valley Conference Action.  Dentler Loschen and Austin Rademacher both had 15 points for the Trojans.

College Basketball…

#7 Michigan State got by #15 Iowa 71 – 69 in OT

#4 Wichita State moved to 22-0 after holding on to beat Loyola 57 – 45


Indiana Pacers beat the Lakers 104 - 92

College Football…

For the first time in the history of college sports, athletes are asking to be represented by a labor union, taking formal steps to begin the process of being recognized as employees.  A petition was filed Tuesday in Chicago on behalf of football players at Northwestern University,  backed by the United Steelworkers union,  filing union cards signed by an undisclosed number of Northwestern players with the National Labor Relations Board—the federal statutory body that recognizes groups that seek collective bargaining rights.


Blackhawks lost again, this time to the Calgary Flames 5 – 4 in OT

St. Louis Blues beat the NJ Devils 3 – 0. 

…also, NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly announced yesterday the NHL is still reviewing whether or not to allow NHL players to participate in this year’s Winter Olympics, amid security concerns in Russia. 


Major League Baseball says it has received and tested numerous prototypes from different vendors for padded caps to provide some head protection against high-speed shots off the bat.  The newly approved caps, will be made available to pitchers for spring training next month. Their use is optional.

Hoopeston Area boys and girls basketball are back in action tonight….at Georgetown-RF, where a canned good donation to the local food pantry can get you into the games tonight, starting with the girls’ game at 6:00pm in Georgetown. 

If you want to stay closer to town, the Hoopeston Youth Wrestling Club is hosting a meet tonight starting a 6pm in the Hoopeston HS gym.
