Seattle embarrassed Denver yesterday 43-8 to win Super Bowl 48.  The Seahawk #1 rated defense stymied Peyton Manning and the Broncos top-ranked offense from the opening snap – scoring on a safety and leading 22-0 at half – in route to their first-ever franchise Super Bowl title.  Seattle LB Malcolm Smith was named the game’s MVP

Earlier in the day Peyton Manning was voted the league MVP.  The Carolina Panther’s Ron Rivera was named Coach of the Year. 

College Basketball…

Cal beat unbeaten and #1 Arizona 60 – 58

#2 Syracuse held off #17 Duke in OT 91 – 89

#4 Wichita State moved to 23 – 0 after beating conference foe Evansville 81 – 67

#6 Kansas lost to #25 Texas 81 – 69

Big Ten:
Georgetown knocked off #7 Michigan State 64 – 60

#24 Ohio State beat #14 Wisconsin 59 – 58

Northwestern beat Minnesota 55 - 54

Illinois attempted a come-back, but couldn’t beat #15 Iowa, losing to the Hawkeyes in Champaign 81 – 74


Purdue lost to Penn State 79 – 68

Indiana knocked of #10 Michigan 63 – 52

HS Basketball….

Pack-the-Place night at Hoopeston Area on Saturday….the HA girls lost to Schlarman Academy ....the boys beat the Hilltoppers - the Cornjerker boys’ 2nd VVC win in as many nights, after beating Salt Fork on Friday.

HS Wrestling….

Bismarck-Henning took fourth out of 15th teams at the Eastern Illinois Tournament. Jarod Noel won the 170-pound title
