Here’s Your WHPO Sports Update…..
H.S. Boys Basketball…
The Cissna Park Timberwolves season ended last night at the class 1A Super-Sectional @ Normal – losing to top-ranked Illini Central 50 – 39. Cole Hasselbring lead the Wolves with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Josh Marquez added 11 points. The Timberwolves out rebounded Illini Central 30 to 17 but gave up 20 turnovers. Cissna Park finishes the season 21-11. Congratulations to Head Coach Kevin Long and the Timberwolves on a great season.
Also….St. Joe-Odgen beat Riverton 59-47 to advance to the Final Four in Class 2A.
NCAA…
Big Ten action last night:
Purdue had a 34 – 30 at half, but #7 Michigan recovered and got by the Boilermakers 80 – 75
Nebraska surprised Minnesota, beating the Golden Gophers 53 - 48
Top 5 action:
Villanova upset #5 Georgetown 67 – 57
NBA…
Miami won their 16th straight….barely…beating the lowly Orlando Magic 97 - 96
The Celtics beat the Pacers 83 - 81
Spurs beat the Bulls 101 - 83

The Blackhawks beat the Colorado Avalanche 3 -2. Chicago continues to build on their NHL-record points streak at 24 games.

and Good Luck to Hoopeston Area Youth Wrestlers Jack Simpson, Adam Colunga, Bohdi Tuggle and Tyson Coon who leave today for weigh-ins at the IWKF State Wrestling Tournament in Rockford. 1st round wrestling begins Friday morning. Of note is that Simpson is ranked #2 in the state at 215 lbs Senior Division.
