Here’s Your WHPO Sports Update…..


The Gonzaga Bulldogs (31-2), the fourth of the four top seeds in the NCAA tournament, were a runaway No. 1 for a third straight week in the AP Top 25 men’s basketball poll, receiving 45 first-place votes Monday from the 65-member national media panel. They are the first team from a non-BCS conference to finish No. 1 in the final poll since Massachusetts of the Atlantic 10 in 1996.
Louisville, the overall No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, is second and got the other 20 first-place votes. Kansas and Indiana—the other No. 1 seeds—are third and fourth, followed by Miami, Duke, Ohio State, Georgetown, Michigan State and New Mexico.

in women’s college b-ball:

Baylor, Connecticut, Notre Dame and Stanford all earned No. 1 spots when the field for the NCAA women’s basketball tournament was announced Monday.  That is the same top 4 seeds as last season when Brittney Griner and Baylor won the women’s national title. 


Miami rallied to beat Boston 105 – 103 and win their 23rd straight game

Chicago lost to Denver 119 – 118 in OT

Pacers beat the Cavaliers 111 – 90.

Other NBA winners last nite:  Golden State, Memphis, Brooklyn, Dallas, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Phoenix, & NY Knicks


Patrick Kane and Jonathan Towes had a goal and 2 assists a piece as the Blackhawks beat the Colorado Avalanche 5 -2. 

Hoopeston Pony League sign ups have been extended to this Friday, March 22nd. Please contact any board member to register. A player must be 14 or younger by May 1st to be eligible. There is no late fee to sign up by Friday. The fee is $60.  T-Ball through Major League registration continues through April 1.

Hoopeston Stingrays Swim Team is signups and swimsuit fittings will be held on Saturday, March 23 from 10-2 at the Hoopeston Masonic Lodge. A final
signup will be held on Saturday, April 27 from 10-2 at the Hoopeston Masonic Lodge.
Youth who will be age 6 by September 1, 2013 through age 18 who can swim freestyle (front crawl) 50 yards may join the team. Registration fee is $40 for one
