Here’s Your WHPO Sports Update…...

The Miami Heat’s 27-game winning streak was snapped Wednesday night by the Chicago Bulls, 101-97.  Luol Deng scored 28 points, and Carlos Boozer added 21 points and 17 rebounds for the Bulls.  LaBron James had 32 points in the loss. 
The Heat finished six games short of the consecutive win record held by the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers.

Shaka Smart is staying at VCU, spurning inquires from UCLA and Minnesota….while Northwestern will hire Chris Collins away from the Duke coaching staff.  Collins was the Illinois’ Mr. Basketball in 1992 out of Glenbrook North H.S.

NIT quarterfinals:

Iowa beat Virginia 75 – 64

BYU beat Southern Miss 79 -  62

Baylor beat Providence 79 – 68


The Cardinals and White Sox won….and the Cubs played to a 10-inning 9-9 tie with the Royals…as pre-season nears an end.  The first MLB opening day games are Sunday night.

The Cardinals have agreed to a five-year, $97.5MM extension with pitcher Adam Wainwright that covers the 2014-2018 seasons – keeping him off the free agent market after this season.
