NCAA Basketball…

Sweet 16 action from last night:

Ohio State advanced to the West Regional final with a 73-70 victory over Arizona after a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 2 seconds to play by LaQuinton Ross.

Marquette beat Miami 71 - 61

#1 seed Indiana lost to Syracuse 61 - 50

Wichita State beat LaSalle 72 - 58


Paul George had 24 points and eight rebounds and the Indiana Pacers beat the Dallas Mavericks 103-78

Larry Sanders scored 13 of his career-high 21 points in the third quarter and the Milwaukee Bucks rallied to beat the Los Angeles Lakers 113-103

Sacramento beat Phoenix 117 – 103. 


The Packers are supposedly nearing a new deal with quarterback Aaron Rogers that would make him the highest paid football player in the league, at an estimated $25-million/year.


Cardinals won 1 – 0 vs. Miami

Seattle beat the Cubs 6 – 4

local baseball….

Cissna Park split a double header with Momence yesterday, losing the first game 13-11.  Beau Anderson went 2-4 from the plate with 2 RBIs, Cole Hasselbring added a 3-run homer in the loss.  The Timberwolves took the 2nd game 10 -6 behind the hitting of Josh and Jacob Marquez who went 3-3 and 3-4 from the plate respectively.  Alex Rabe had a 2-run homer in that game…while Beau Anderson threw 7 strikeouts across 4 innings of work.  Cissna Park is 4-1 overall on the season
local basketball….

Congratulations to Watseka junior Devin Curry who was named to the News-Gazette All-Area Girls Basketball 1st team.  Curry averaged 17.1 points and an area best 6.2 assists a game this year for the 26-7 Warriors.
