NCAA…

Louisville fought back against Wichita State and Michigan held off Syracuse Saturday to advance to the national championship game tonight.  Tip off is around 8:20pm.

In women’s final four action:

Louisville beat Cal 64 - 57

and #1 seed UConn knocked off the other #1 seed Notre Dame 83 - 65


MLB…

on Sunday:

The Cubs lost to Atlanta 5 – 1, despite Jeff Samardzija’s career best 13 strikeouts.  Home Opener is today at Wrigley Field.

The White Sox beat the Mariners 4 – 3 in 10 innings.

and the Cardinals pounded the SF Giants 14 – 3. 


NASCAR….

Jimmie Johnson led a career-best 346 laps Sunday and pulled away on a restart with eight laps to go for his eighth career victory at Martinsville Speedway.


NBA…

The Bulls lost to the Pistons 99 – 85

The LA Clippers beat the LA Lakers 109 – 95 and won their first Pacific Division title in franchise history.

NHL…

Chicago knocked off Nashville 5 – 3 to become the first team to clinch a NHL playoff spot this season.


Local Sports…

Baseball from Saturday:

Watseka took both games of a double header with GCMS, winning 8-3 and 18-1

Manteno beat Cissna Park 16-1 and 13-3 in that double header

and in Softball:

Hoopeston Area split a double header with Urbana, losing the first game 13-12, but taking the 2nd 8-6.  The Cornjerker’s Rylee Martin had 3 RBIs in the nightcap victory.

Youth Sport announcements:
• Hoopeston Stingrays Swim Team is registering swimmers for the Summer 2013 season. Signups and swimsuit fittings will be held on Wednesday, April 10 from 6-8 p.m. at the Hoopeston Masonic Lodge. A final signup will be held on Saturday, April 27 from 10-12 at the Hoopeston Masonic Lodge
• Hoopeston Area spring basketball camp for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will be held at the middle school gym every Monday and Thursday nights 6:-7:30, starting April 15 and ending May 16. Cost is $35 for the camp, which is designed to improve individual skills. There will be no games or scrimmages at this camp.
