Here’s Your WHPO Sports Update…..


Kansas City selected Central Michigan Offensive Tackle Eric Fisher as the overall 1st pick of the 2013 NFL draft.  The Chicago Bears selected Oregon offensive lineman Kyle Long – son of Hall of Fame defensive lineman and broadcaster Howie Long. 

Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o, who was considered a possible draft choice of the Bears and Vikings, was not selected in the 1st round


Carlos Boozer had 22 points and 16 rebounds, Luol Deng added 21 points and 10 boards, and the Chicago Bulls held off the Brooklyn Nets 79-76 in Game 3 of their first-round playoff series.

Miami beat Milwaukee 104 – 91 to take a commanding 3 – 0 series lead over the Bucks.

Grizzles got by the Clippers 94 - 82


The Cubs came back in the 9th inning to get by the Miami Marlins 4 – 3

White Sox won at home, beating Tampa Bay 5 - 2


The St. Louis Blues beat the Calgary Flames 4 -1.  The Blues have a league-best 10 wins in April.

Local Sports…


Watseka beat Cissna Park 12 – 3 in game restarted from a previous rain delay.  The Warriors won game 2 of the doubleheader as well, 10 – 0. 

PBL beat Schlarman 10 – 2

Bismarck-Henning lost to Westville 14 - 6

Iroquois West scored all their runs in the 7th inning to beat Tri-Point 5 – 2

Hoopeston Area lost to Salt Fork 9 – 3.  Connor Cline had a home run and two RBIs for Hoopeston Area while Aiden Berg had two hits and a RBI.

Jake England pitched a complete game shut-out, striking out 16 batters and giving up no walks in Oakwood’s 1 – 0 victory over GRF/Chrisman.


Schlarman beat Westville 1 – 0

Salt Fork beat Bismarck-Henning 10 – 4

GRF/C pounded Oakwood 17 - 0

Donovan 4 – Watseka 1

Iroquois West beat Tri-Point 7 – 3


Hoopeston Stingrays Swim Team’s final signup will be 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Hoopeston Masonic Lodge. Youth who will be age 6 by September 1, 2013
through age 18 who can swim freestyle (front crawl) 50 yards may join the team. Registration fee is $40 for one child, $60 for two, and $75 for three or more.
