Here’s Your WHPO Sports Update…...


Cubs lost to the Padres 13 - 7

Cardinals beat the Reds 2 – 1 on Matt Holliday’s 2-run HR.

White Sox lost to the Rangers 10 – 6. 


Denver got by Golden State 107 – 100.  The Warriors lead the series 3-2.

Memphis beat the LA Clippers 103 - 93


Chicago Blackhawks beat the Minnesota Wild 2 -1 in OT.  Brian Bickell scored the deciding goal for the Hawks in extra time.

Local Sports…


JHANCE MARSHALL had three hits, including the game-winner, to help the host Cornjerkers earn a come-from-behind victory, beating Bismarck-Henning 11-10. Hoopeston trailed 10-3 going into the bottom of the seventh inning before scoring eight runs to pull off the win.  BRITTNEY MYERS added three hits and drove in two runs for Hoopeston.

Schlarman beat Salt Fork 4 – 3

Watseka had no trouble with Oakwood winning 13 – 4.  KATIE McTAGGART hit a home run for the third straight game to lead the Warriors to a home win.


CONNOR CLINE struck out nine in four innings for the Cornjerkers and he drove in two runs as Hoopeston Area beat Bismarck-Henning 6 – 4.  KENDALL WALDER added an RBI for Hoopeston Area. KANE RICHMOND was 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Blue Devils.

GRF/C beat Armstrong-Potomac 5 – 3

Salt Fork beat up on Schlarman 22 – 2

North Vermilion beat Oakwood 14 - 3

PBL beat Cissna Park 9 – 2. 

Watseka got by Beecher 6 - 2

St. Joe-Ogden beat Iroquois West 8 - 1

and congratulations to Hoopeston Area 8th grader Olivia Huls who set a county record in the triple-jump on Saturday.  5 girls, 1 boy and 3 different relay teams took County titles for the Cornjerker middle school track team that day as well.
