Here’s Your WHPO Sports Update…....

Local Sports…

The Vermilion Valley Conference announced its 2013 softball and baseball honors for the spring season. 

In softball, Hoopeston Area sophomore Riley Martin was named 1st team all-conference.  Joining Martin on the 1st team included Bismarck-Henning’s: Brittany Ribbe, Lexi Ballard & Lauren McKenzie, and Armstrong-Potomac’s Morgan Zindars.  Jordan McFadden and Jhance Marshall from Hoopeston Area were Special Mention along with Milford’s Erin McNally.   

In baseball, Hoopeston Area had 2 named to the VVC First team:  Junior Aiden Berg and Senior Connor Cline.  Milford’s Clayton Rieches, Bismarck-Henning’s Dylan Dodd and Armstrong-Potomac’s Dentler Loschen earned Special Mention.  The Cornjerker’s Kendall Walder, Armstrong’s Matt Terrell, Bismarck-Henning’s Kane Richmond and Milford’s Tanner Davenport were Honorable Mention. 


The Red Sox beat the White Sox 6 – 2

The Pirates beat the Cubs 1 – 0

Cardinals beat the Padres 5 - 3


LeBron James made a layup as time expired in overtime, and the Miami Heat beat the Indiana Pacers 103-102 in a wild Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals Wednesday night.
James finished with 30 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for the Heat. 

Brian Urlacher announced his retirement from the NFL after 13 seasons Wednesday.  The Bears parted ways with Urlacher after last season when the two sides couldn’t agree on a new contract. Urlacher became a free agent saying he still had some football left, but chose to retire after briefly testing the free-agent market.
