Here’s Your WHPO Summer Sports Minute…...
Edwin Jackson earned his third straight win, combining with four relievers on a four-hitter, and Anthony Rizzo drove in all the runs to lead the Chicago Cubs to a 3-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday night.
Josh Phegley’s 6th inning grand slam gave starter Chris Sale some long-awaited offensive support, and the Chicago White Sox went on to beat the Detroit Tigers 6-3 on Thursday in a game that included a bench-clearing altercation shortly after the White Sox took the lead.
The Los Angeles Lakers officially parted ways with Metta World Peace (formerly Ron Artest) on Thursday night in an NBA luxury tax-cutting measure that will mean approximately $14 million in savings for the team.

Hoopeston Cornjerker football camp for grades 3-12 will be held July 22-25. Grades 3-6 will practice from 9-11 a.m. Grades 7-12 will hit the field from 6-8 p.m. Cost is $15, payable to HAHS Football. Registration Deadline was July 5, so contact Coach Michl Kearney, at 283-6661 to get your player signed up.
