Here’s Your WHPO Summer Sports Minute…...


Yadier Molina hit a three-run homer in St. Louis’ four-run ninth inning, and the Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs 10-6 on Sunday night in the majors’ final game before the All-Star break.

The White Sox dropped their 2nd straight extra innings game, losing to the Phillies 4 – 3 in 10 innings.


Michael Vickers won Sunday’s Sprint Cup race in New Hampshire


The Chicago Fire lost to the Vancouver Whitecaps 3 – 1 on Sunday.


Sign-ups without a late fee for youth soccer in Danville have been extended until July 20.  Children ages 4-14 of any soccer skill or background are welcome to register at:  Note that Hoopeston players play on Hoopeston teams and practice in Hoopeston – the same is true for Watseka & Bismarck players.  Visit the Danville Area Soccer Association website or look-up Hoopeston Area Youth Soccer on Facebook for more information

Camp & Fall Sports information:

Hoopeston Cornjerker football camp for grades 3-12 will be held July 22-25. Grades 3-6 will practice from 9-11 a.m. Grades 7-12 will hit the field from 6-8 p.m. Cost is $15, payable to HAHS Football. Registration Deadline was July 5, so contact Coach Michl Kearney, at 283-6661 to get your player signed up.

Also….youth soccer sign-ups are happening now – visit to register your player for the fall Danville Area Soccer Association season.  July 20 is the cut-off to avoid a late fee.  Find Hoopeston Area Youth Soccer on Facebook…or contact your local rep for information on your town playing in the annual fall rec league at Winter Park in Danville.
