Betty Gholson Eckersley Boehme, 93, of Hoopeston

Betty Gholson Eckersley Boehme, 93, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 6:12 P.M. Thursday November 1, 2018 at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Living in Hoopeston.  She was born July 24, 1925 in Hoopeston, IL, the daughter of Vernon and Helen (Thornbury) Gholson.  She married Dale Eckersley in 1949.  He preceded her in death on August 8, 1966.  She later married Wayne Boehme in October 1971 and he preceded her in death on November 16, 1997.

She is survived by one daughter, Patricia (Paul) Berthiaume of Saugus, MA; one son, Don Eckersley of Wellington, IL; two step-daughters, Sandy McCord of Hoopeston, IL and Betty Homa of Hoopeston, IL; four sisters, Mary Knapp of Cissna Park, IL, Shirley (Butch) Sondgerath of Ambia, IN, Alice Butts of Danville, IL, and Pat (Ron) Sondgerath of Indianapolis, IN; six grandchildren, Chris (Vanessa) Flohr, Desirae (Ahmy) Arca, Sarah Soleau, Rachel (Mark) Burns, Allison Berthiaume, Jessica (Travis) DeRossett; two step-grandchildren, Jason (Melia) McCord and Eric McCord; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Vernon Gholson II, William Gholson, Carl Gholson, Bernard Gholson, and Robert Gholson; and two brothers-in-law, Earl Knapp and Larry Butts.

 Betty worked in the lunchroom at Hoopeston-East Lynn School until her retirement.  She served in the United States Naval Reserve and was a member of the Hoopeston United Methodist Church.

A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Tuesday November 6, 2018 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday November 7, 2018 at the funeral home, with Pastor Cathy Najmon officiating.  Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.  Military rites will be accorded by the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384.
