Charles Robert "Bob" Totheroh, 88, of Wellington

Charles Robert “Bob” Totheroh, 88, of Wellington, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening (February 6, 2019) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL, following a brief illness.  At his bedside were his son, four of his granddaughters, his son-in-law, and his former daughter-in-law.

Bob was born on July 19, 1930, in Lovejoy Township where he made his lifelong home.  After graduating from Wellington High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and soon married Louise Leverenz of Wellington on August 24, 1951.  Soon after, Bob was deployed to Morocco where Louise and their eldest daughter, Kathy, later joined him.

Following his discharge from the service, the family returned to Wellington where Bob began a career at Wellington State Bank, serving as Vice President and Manager for nearly 20 years.  He then went on to start the Totheroh Insurance Agency with offices in Hoopeston and Milford, which he operated until his retirement.

An excellent conversationalist, Bob became an authority on local area history and loved nothing more than to regale anyone who would listen with his “seemingly endless tales” of his own life experiences and the scores of fascinating people he met along the way.  He was a lifelong student of agriculture and financial markets and enjoyed golf, collecting coins, and watching Illini sports in his spare time.

Bob is survived by one sister, Norma Irvin, of Wellington; one son, Todd Totheroh of Bloomington; one son-in-law, Eric “Rick” Bach of Bloomington, IL; 6 granddaughters, Whitney Totheroh of Bloomington, IL, Lacey Stroink of Dallas, TX, Taylor (Cody) Robinson of Atlanta, IL, Emma, Grace, and Sophie Totheroh of Bloomington, IL; two great – granddaughters, Lillian and Delilah Robinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Maury of Wellington; his wife, Louise; and two daughters, Kathy Stroink and Cindy Bach.

He was a member of the Milford Christian Church and served his community in many volunteer positions over the years.

Visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Tuesday February 12, 2019 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday February 13, 2019 at the funeral home, with Pastor Brent Zastrow officiating.  Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

The family suggests donations to the Milford Christian Church 811 E. Hickory St., Milford, IL 60953, OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois 530 NE Glen Oak Ave., Peoria, IL 61637, or a charity of the donor’s choice in Bob’s name.
