Opal M. Irwin, 90, of Sour Lake, Texas, formerly of Hoopeston

Opal M. Irwin, 90, of Sour Lake, Texas, formerly of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 3, 2019, at Silsbee Oaks Health Care.

Opal was born on August 6, 1928, in the hills of Barren County Kentucky. She was the daughter of Branford and Georgia (Polson) Lawson.  She married Glen Allen Irwin on July 12, 1952, in Henderson, Kentucky.  He preceded her in death in 1999.

She is survived by two daughters- Karen (Jay) Stover of Sour Lake, Texas and Barbara Fleenor of Rockville, Indiana; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; one brother- Clifton (Roberta) Lawson of Danville; one sister- Juanita (Clay) Wallace of Rossville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son- Kenny Glass, one grandson- Jimmy Fleenor, four brothers and one sister.

Opal enjoyed sewing, crafting, cooking and listening to bluegrass music.

A Celebration of Opal M. Irwin’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2019, at Blurton Funeral Home, with Pastor Brent Zastrow officiating.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.  She will be laid to rest following the services in Locust Grove Cemetery.  Memorials may be made in Opal’s name to Alzheimer’s Association.  The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home to assist them in honoring Opal’s life.  Memories or photos may be shared with the family on her everlasting memorial page at:  www.BlurtonFuneralHomes.com.
