Daniel Edmond "Danny" Coon, 69, of Hoopeston, IL

Daniel Edmond “Danny” Coon, 69, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 12:08 P.M. Saturday November 30, 2019 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.  He was born February 5, 1950, in Danville, IL, the son of Earl B. and Leila M. (Wise) Coon.  He married Sharon “Sherry” Longfellow on September 1, 1973, in Hoopeston.  She survives.

 

He is also survived by two sisters, Shirley (Erby) Denney of Rossville, IL and Janice Polson of Hoopeston, IL; six brothers, Larry Coon of Hoopeston, IL, Jim Coon of Bullhead City, AZ, John (Linda) Coon of Osteen, FL, Bill (Debbie) Coon of Fontana, CA, Alfred (Karla) Coon of Hoopeston, IL, and Sam (Marilyn) Coon of Hoopeston, IL; two grandchildren, Caleb Christopher Coon and Hunter James Coon; and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by parents; one son, Christopher Shane Coon; two sisters, Donna Burge and Jeannie Sheppard; and one brother, Don Coon.

 

Danny worked at American Can, which later became Silgan, for 39 years, until his retirement.  He served in the United States Air Force from 1969 - 1973.  He was a past Little League coach for several years.  He loved spending time with his family, especially hunting and fishing with his son and grandsons.  Danny also enjoyed bowling and working on cars and his Jeep with his son, Chris.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Thursday December 5, 2019 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor David Bowen officiating.  Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.  Military rites will be accorded by the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384.
