John David "Dave" Cass Prather, 70, of Las Vegas, Nevada, formerly of Rossville

John David “Dave” Cass Prather of Las Vegas, Nevada, formerly of Rossville, IL, passed away Thursday August 6, 2020 at his home.   Dave was born in Danville, IL on February 9, 1950 to John Douglas Prather and Georgia Cass Prather.   Dave is survived by a nephew, Charles (Chuckie) Landers and a niece, Cassandra  Dawn  (Landers)  Paris.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marsha Prather and brother, James (Jim)  Prather.  Dave grew up in Rossville, IL and graduated from Rossville-Alvin High School in 1968.  He was a champion go?kart driver in his youth and  operated  Prather  Hi?Performance  racing  shop  at  Prather  Garage  in  Rossville.   He attended Danville Area Community College before moving to Springfield in the mid 1970’s to work for the Illinois Department of Revenue as an appraisal specialist.   After 12 years at the Department of Revenue, Dave left to open Property Tax Services of Illinois, Inc., a consulting business that specialized in assisting owners of over?taxed commercial and industrial properties in obtaining fair tax assessments.    He moved to Las Vegas in 1996, operating the business remotely until his retirement in 2017.     

Cremation rites have been accorded and a graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday October 16, 2020 at Rossville Cemetery in Rossville, IL. 

In lieu of flowers, Dave requested that donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, P.O. Box 863765 Orlando, FL 32886.
