Leona P. York, 87 of Hoopeston

It is with great sadness that we announce Leona P. York passed away peacefully on December 9, 2022. Leona was born to Crystal (McGrath) and Ronald Jordan in Gibson City, IL, on March 4, 1935. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Brenda Gaither; husband, Don Burton and Henry “Sarge” York and longtime companion, Ray Eells; and three great grandchildren.  

She is survived by sister, Joyce Allen; children, Steve (Janine) York of Mesa, AZ, Teri (Gary) Warf of Louisville, KY, Don (Nancy) York of Louisville, KY, and Julie (John) Taylor of Etowah, TN; grandchildren, Brandy (Ryan) Forsyth, Andrew (Jessica) York, Laurel York, Jason Warf, Tammy (Jon) Roberts, Angie (Rickie) Cade, Todd (Kristin) Warf, Jordan (Beth) York, Wes (Samantha) York, Jennifer (Scott) Martin, Tara (Juston) Ticknor and Travis (Patty) Morenz; great grandchildren, Chloe and Lila Forsyth, Thora Rose York, Sophia Warf, Tanner Brancato, Rene Roberts, Meagan Colunga, Chase Cade, Cooper, Kenzie, and Jackson Warf, Arabella and Caleb Campbell, Drew and Alec Martin, Hadlee, Corbon and Brylee Ticknor, Katie and Coby Morenz; 8 great great grandchildren, one niece, Dawn Samet; and two nephews, Darrin and Chris Lucas. 

Leona was blessed to also have a bonus family of Jacquie (Clark) Potter, David (Lori) Eells, and Liz (Mick) Braddock; grandchildren, Dani (Nate) Boyer, Tony and Cody Eells, Lauren (Jordan) Stream, Natalie (Willie) Rayfield, Clayton (Angelica) Potter, Whitney Braddock, and Lyndey (Tyler) Selsor; great grandchildren, Jacy and Brynlee Boyer, Charley and Bradley Sara Rayfield, Luis Clark Potter, Lorelei, Isla and Lottie Ray Stream, Deiter, Kendyll and Luka Selsor. 

Leona was a long-time employee of Hoopeston East-Lynn School system and one of her great pleasures in life was seeing all the former students and teachers. She enjoyed bowling and was inducted into the bowling hall of fame but most importantly she enjoyed all her friends and family. 

“My life has been a tapestry of rich and royal hue, an everlasting vision of the ever-changing view, A wonderous woven magic in bits of blue and gold, A tapestry to feel and see, impossible to hold.” 

Please help us celebrate Leona’s life with a visitation from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M. on Friday December 16, 2022, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. A service will follow at 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Following the service, cremation rites will be accorded. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Save the Lorraine Foundation, P.O. Box 247, Hoopeston, IL 60942.
