Sandra Jo “Sandy” Samet, 80, of rural East Lynn, IL, passed away at 7:28 A.M. Friday November 3, 2023, at Heritage Heath Therapy and Senior Living in Hoopeston, IL. She was born July 25, 1943, in Hoopeston, the daughter of Roy E. and Gladys (Tucker) Long. She married Ralph M. Samet on September 30, 1962, in Cheneyville, IL. He preceded her in death on April 22, 2023.
She is survived by three sons, Greg (Tina) Samet of rural Hoopeston, IL, Kenny (Betty) Samet of Hoopeston, IL, and Dan (Dawn) Samet of East Lynn, IL; one sister, Shirley Matthews; two sisters-in-law, Judy Long and Yasuko Long; six grandchildren, Jacy (Trevor) Rush, Erika (Jeremy) Weber, William (Michelle) Samet, Andrew Samet (Allison Voyles), Theresa (Lane) Huls, and Elizabeth Samet (Luis Lugo); four great-grandchildren, Oliver and Emerson Huls, Murphy Rush, and Charlie Weber and two more on the way; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Sandy was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Jim, Harold, Tom, and Mike Long; two sisters-in-law, Diane and Donna Long; one brother-in-law, Bill Matthews; and one great-grandson, Theodore Huls.
Sandy worked in the office at Hoopeston Electric and later became a sales representative for MetLife. She was a member of the Cheneyville Church of Christ. She loved her family and enjoyed watching her sons at motocross races and truck pulling events. Sandy also enjoyed doing cross-stitch.
A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday November 8, 2023, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday November 9, 2023, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in East Lynn Cemetery.
