Larry David Lobb, 80, of Hoopeston

Larry David Lobb, 80, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 5:26 A.M. Thursday February 8, 2024, at his home. He was born April 13, 1943, in Clinton, IL, the son of Otha Lobb and Edith Anderson Lobb Maple. He married Priscilla Kay Young on June 10, 1967, at St. Patrick Church in Danville, IL. She survives in Hoopeston.

He is also survived by one daughter, Deborah Kay (Max) Green of Copperopolis, CA; one son, David Mark Lobb of Medford, OR; two sisters-in-law, Margaret (Ray) Dyer of Kalispell, MT and Mary Janette (Pete) Kinnamon of Lakeland, FL; one brother-in-law, William (Mindy) Young of Blue Mound, IL; three grandchildren, Jessica (Marcel) Lee, Jermanie (Marco) Kivett, and Jarod Lambert; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and three brothers.

Larry was a math teacher at Hoopeston Area High School for over thirty years. He was always very supportive of his students, helping them build floats, teaching summer school, and working the concession stand. During the summer months, he worked at Joan of Arc Canning Company in Hoopeston. After his retirement from Hoopeston Area High School, he taught at DACC for several years.  Larry was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where he had previously served as a trustee. He also served as a past-President of the Hoopeston Area School Board and volunteered to work the gate at the Hoopeston Sweetcorn Festival. Larry had an interest in local sports from attending every Hoopeston Area High School game to being an avid follower of the Fighting Illini. He also enjoyed social media, playing card games on his iPad, and playing slot machines for entertainment. One of Larry’s greatest attributes was helping others during their time of need.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 423 S. Third St., Hoopeston, IL, with Father Timothy Sauppé officiating. Following the mass, a celebration of life will be held at The Legion, 502 E. Penn St., Hoopeston, IL. A private family burial will be held.
