The area high school baseball schedule for tonight features Hoopeston Area hosting Georgetown Ridge Farm, Milford hosting Schlarman Academy, Cissna Park traveling to Tri-Point, and Bismarck Henning hosting Salt Fork. First pitch is set for 4:30 in each of those games.

In Major League Baseball action, the Cubs defeated the Phillies 5-4 in 13 innings to take 3 out of 4 in that series. Albert Almora Jr scored the winning run on a throwing error by Phillies shortstop Freddy Galvis as he was attempting to turn a double play. Miguel Montero led the Cubs offense with a solo home run and 2 RBI on the day. Reliever Koji Uehara picked up the victory after tossing a scoreless top of the 13th inning. The Cubs will now welcome the New York Yankees into town for a 3 game weekend series beginning this afternoon at 1:20. Kyle Hendricks will take the mound against Michael Pineda in that one.


The Cardinals lost to the Brewers 5-4 in St Louis to drop 2 out of 3 in their abbreviated series. Reliever Matt Bowman picked up the loss after giving up a pinch hit solo home run in the 7th inning. Dexter Fowler led the Redbird offense with a two run triple in the 2nd inning but had to leave the game early with a shoulder strain suffered while making a diving catch. He’s currently listed as day to day pending a medical exam. The Redbirds will now hit the road for a 3 game weekend series against the Braves beginning at 6:35 tonight. Lance Lynn will face off against Mike Foltynewicz in tonight’s first game.


The White Sox beat the Royals 8-3 to split their four game series in Kansas City. Jose Abreu smacked a two run home run in the first inning to give the southsiders an early lead that they would not relinquish. Matt Davidson also hit a solo home run in support of winning pitcher Derek Holland. Holland gave up just 1 earned run on 3 hits while striking out 7 in his 6 â..." innings on the mound. The Sox will now head to Baltimore for a 3 game weekend series against the Orioles beginning at 6:05 tonight. Miguel Gonzalez will take the bump against Wade Miley in that one.


In NBA playoff action, the Wizards defeated the Celtics 116-89 to get back in that series while the Warriors defeated the Jazz 115-104 to take a two games to none lead in that one. Tonight’s schedule features the Cavaliers traveling to Toronto to take on the Raptors and the Rockets hosting the Spurs. The Cavs currently hold a 2 games to none lead over the Raptors, while the Spurs and Rockets are tied at a game apiece.


The St Louis Blues will be looking to stave off elimination in game 5 of their Western Conference semi-final series against the Predators tonight. Puck drop is set for 7 pm at the Scottrade Center as the Preds lead the series 3 games to 1.


Lastly, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup series will be at Talladega on Sunday afternoon at 1 o’clock. Brad Keselowski is the defending champion at the 2 â..." mile tri-oval.
