Area high school baseball scores from yesterday included Salt Fork over Hoopeston Area 4-1, Milford shutting down Armstrong Potomac 1-0, and Bismarck Henning over Oakwood 13-7. Tonight’s schedule features Hoopeston Area against Westville and Milford hosting Illinois Lutheran with first pitch set for 4:30 in both of those games.

 

Meanwhile, girls softball scores from yesterday featured Hoopeston Area over Salt Fork 3-1, Armstrong Potomac doubling up Milford 4-2, Bismarck Henning over Oakwood 6-1, and Watseka losing a tight one to Gardner South Wilmington 7-6. This afternoon’s schedule features Hoopeston Area traveling to Georgetown Ridge Farm and Milford hosting Oakwood with first pitch set for 4:30.

 

Major League Baseball action from last night saw the Cardinals take their fourth game in a row with a 9-4 victory over the Marlins. Cardinals starter Carlos Martinez picked up the victory after giving up 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 7 in his 6 innings on the mound. He also led the offense with 2 hits and 4 RBI on the night. The Redbirds will be back in action tonight at 6:10 when Adam Wainwright faces off against Dan Straily of the Marlins.

 

The Cubs game in Colorado was postponed due to rain last night, so they will play a day-night doubleheader today. First pitch is set for 1:10 this afternoon in the first game with Jake Arrieta taking the bump against Antonio Senzatela. They will clear the stadium once that game is finished and the second game will get going around 7:40 tonight. John Lackey will take the mound for the Cubs in the second game against Kyle Freeland of the Rockies.

 

The White Sox had the night off last night but will begin a three game series at home tonight against the Twins. First pitch is set for 7:10 with Mike Pelfrey taking on former southside hurler Hector Santiago in that one.

 

Lastly, the NBA playoff schedule from last night saw the Warriors blow out the Jazz 121-95 in Utah to sweep that series four games to none. They will now move on to face the winner of the Rockets-Spurs series with that one tied at two games apiece. Game 5 of that series will take place tonight at 7 pm in San Antonio.
